5Totally changed my running experience... for the better!
By G. Kline
I'm not a hard core runner, but I pay a lot of attention to how my running shoes feel and perform. I've known too many people that have developed injuries from running shoes that were either inferior in quality/design or didn't fit properly.

ECCO's new BIOM line aims to achieve a perfect fit, if not marginally close to it. Granted, our feet all vary in shape from one another, so it's hard to strike a design that works well for a multitude of people. It seems like BIOM does this well. I wear a size 12, right dead smack in the middle of the size (not 11.75 or 12.25) and these shoes fit like slippers.

I'm also well aware of the minimalist running movement and fully believe in what it's all about. But the Tarahumara Indians and Maasai of Africa have running as part of their culture and have the innate ability to run either barefoot or with thin leather sandals. If you've grown up wearing thickly padded sneakers, you can't immediately jump to a minimalist running shoe without suffering injuries (particularly to your calf muscles and arches). But the BIOM shoe strikes this wonderful middle ground of providing a padded shoe that helps you achieve a mid strike if you're so inclined to do so, while providing enough support so that your foot still gets a chance to flex and build up muscle tone (something highly padded shoes deprive your feet of, making them even more depending on even greater padding).

These are expensive, no doubt about it. But it's better to invest in top footwear to a) significantly reduce injuries, and b) have a great running experience. I was lucky to find these on discount (they were a store return) so I didn't pay full price. If you can find them for less than $225, jump on them ASAP.
